Community Engagement

The Local Health Integration Act (2006) requires each LHIN to involve their local communities in health care decision-making. The WWLHIN is proactive in gathering information and expert advice from both the health care provider community and the residents of Waterloo Wellington.
Community input is gathered through public consultation activities as well as advisory committees and working groups. Information related to current consultations opportunities for public involvement and committees acting in an advisory role will be found on this page.

Integration of Health Services

From time to time it may be decided that the integration of two or more health services or health service providers will lead to better and more efficient health care services for the residents of Waterloo Wellington. If a service provider is funded in whole or in part by the WWLHIN, the health service provider must notify the LHIN before taking any action. This type of integration activity is called a “voluntary integration”.
Under the Local Health System Integration Act, 2006, the WWLHIN has the authority to decline this integration of services if it is considered to be in conflict with the Integrated Health Service Plan (link to IHSP page) (IHSP) or it is found to not be in the public interest. More information on the integration of health services can be found on the Health Service Providers’ page of this website.
The public will always have an opportunity to review any pending integration decision. Any information related to integration decisions will be posted on this website.
